#GORGOGirl Erin Madden
/We love featuring our everyday GORGOgirls that are inspiring us to crush life and a balanced approach to fitness.
Meet Erin Madden.
Tell us about your fitness life, Erin!
I am a member of the YMCA where I get to drop my kids in childcare for up to TWO HOURS a day to work out! I have an online personal trainer who writes my workouts. I typically exercise 5 days a week- 3 lift days and 2 HIIT days. I also enjoy spinning and yoga. But I hate to run.
Having exercised most of my adult life, I've learned that you don't have to do things that you don't like to do! There are too many great forms of exercise I do enjoy to dread and struggle through something. Consequently, my trainer knows not to program sprints or Kettlebell Cleans for me!
Tell us about your non-fitness life.
I am a mom of 3 boys: ages 5, 3, and almost 2. My husband and I have been married for 7 years and we live outside of Savannah, GA. Because we live in coastal GA, we love to spend our time boating and at the beach.
I work nightshift as a nurse and I am currently pursuing a new career in Real Estate.
Any fun facts? Pets? Travels? Hobbies? Silly stuff?
My hobbies include baking, exercising, doing lots of laundry and dishes, following college football and golf, and gardening. Our home is very wild and always dirty but full of lots of love! Our 9 year old chocolate lab "Deke" tolerates lots of tail pulling from his 3 human brothers!
My husband and I met at The Masters golf tournament when we were 18... but I didn't like him at all so I saved his number in my phone as "do not answer" for 4 years.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT GORGO?
I love that Gorgo represents every woman. I love that Gorgo works to empower women to use the gifts that God gave them to build their best life. I love that Gorgo never photoshops an image and points to the greatness that is in each woman regardless of shape, weight, or other mainstream beauty ideals. I love that Gorgo promotes maintaining a balanced healthy lifestyle in combination with self-love. I love that every girl can be a #GORGOgirl.
What made you want to attend CAMP GORGO this year?
My trainer/bestie Mandy was a GORGO rookie last year and it was such an impactful experience for her. She kept telling me about her camp experience and encouraging me to attend. I was able to work it out so that I could leave my kids for the first time ever to go to Camp. I must've asked Mandy 150 questions about camp during our 10 hour drive from Savannah to Elizabethtown. I was more than a little excited and anxious.
One of the things I loved about GORGO was that it forced us to be intentional, to look within and determine why we were at camp and what we were going to get out of our time there. My intention was to be stretched, with respect to both my fitness and my interactions with the other women. Camp GORGO is incredibly diverse and I really enjoyed connecting with so many different women.
WHAT WAS YOUR Favorite part?
By far, my favorite part of GORGO was the GORGO games. Where else would you get 50 grown women jumping around in potato sacks wearing tutus?! The competition was healthy and fun and the camaraderie that flowed out of it was incredible. I feel honored to have been introduced to this sisterhood of #GORGOgirls who love one another and lift one another up. Camp GORGO is a truly unique experience!
